Sunday the 26th till Monday the 27th of April.
(Charters Towers to Mt Isa to Bush camp in Northern Territory)

That Sunday was the day with the longest drive (about 760 km) so we got up early and drove. As we arrived at Mt Isa a large mining town it was just a short while before sundown. So we quickly sat the tents up and then went up to see the sun going down over the Isa. During the day we had prepared at bottle of Skittles vodka. Which meant we had to drink a bit of the vodka during the day, some of it for breakfast even, to make room for the skittles. The colour became a muddy pink, because of the mix of colours, we put everything except for the green ones in. So after dinner we played some drinking game (possibly red or black) with the skittles vodka. Just so you know it is an evil drink, because it is just straight vodka, but the colour makes you think it is something that tastes good or okay – but it doesn't.
The next day we drove about 600km and at one point crossed into Northern Territory. Now we started to realise how annoying flies can be. But luckily it could have been worse. After driving we found a place near the road where we could set up our Bush camp. We started a fire and watched the sunset, as the sun went down the flies disappeared. Because of the cows wandering about and at times moving closer to our camp, we started discussing when the cows where going to ram the camp. The guys cooked a nice stew that evening. And Rob made us some dessert made of banana, chocolate and marshmallows. It was beautiful to sit around the fire and simply watch the fire or when it started to die down the most gorgeous night sky I've seen in a while.

Friday the 24th till Saturday the 25th of April.
(Cairns and Great Barrier Reef to Charters Towers)

The next day we met Rob and Geoff, the two new guys. The day was spent on Great Barrier Reef. As we got on the boat, we received a form you had to fill before being allowed to dive. One of the questions about health asked: have you had anything alcoholic to drink in the last 8 hours. We all agreed that since there was an hour or two till we would be diving it would be more than 8 hours since we drank. So slightly hangover we lounged on the boat, before all the newbies at diving gathered to get at quick course in diving, a test dive was included in the prize, you only went about a meter down or something. Then you could dive further down with at guide for about 75 AUD. That dive went to about 6 meters under water. It was amazing to swim among the reefs and see everything closer than if you simply snorkelled (which we did first while waiting for it to be our turn). It was a weird but fun feeling to “breathe” under water. After the dive we went back and relaxed on the boat. There was a second dive, which I didn't do, one of the reasons being my jaw hurts when being in the position you have to for the breathing mouth piece (or whatever it is called). So we just enjoyed the day on the boat. At night we went out to eat and for Hanny, Laura, Helen, Sven and Nicole it was the last day. So at dinner Luke did his what was the best and the worst thing of the trip with them. After dinner we went back to the hostel and sat in the bar and talked a bit with Rob and Geoff to get to know them a bit.
The next day you could either take a cable-car to a small town or just relax in Cairns. Me and Nanna just wandered Cairns. Then we drove about 480 km to Charters Towers and Geoff and Rob got to set up their tent for the first time in the dark. So Luke cooked that night and we just hung out until people one by one went to bed.

Tuesday the 21st till Thursday the 23rd of April.
(Airlie Beach to Mission Beach to Cairns)

The next day we left Airlie Beach and had a 540km drive. We got to the campsite and those who wanted to skydive drove of to do that, while we sat up camp. Then we went to the beach for a quick swim before trying to find out where the skydivers where going to land. We found a mark but it wasn't the right one. They landed far away from where we were. The rest of the day was spent relaxing, before eating. The night was spent talking and drinking. Sofie, with the help of the other danish girls, tried to teach the others the drinking game Pyramid. It went alright except the amount one had to drink seemed to change randomly. The night also introduced the nickname moaning Mona and a weird conversation about a tree and sex. Also the subject of skinny-dipping was discussed for a time.
Then it was the day for White Water rafting – Xtreme. Which was so much fun. The guides were incredibly funny and seemed to love guiding us down the river and at times tipping the raft so we all ended in the water. That night we ate at a restaurant near the campsite and I had some great kangaroo.
The night ended and the next day it was time to head for Cairns which was just 160km away. We checked in to the hostel and then the ones who were going to bungy or swing went of to AJ Hacketts. I did the Minjin – the jungle swing, together with Sofie. The worst part for me was the ride up and waiting for us to be able to pull the string so the swing would start. Sofie pulled the string. It was really fun, the guy who strapped us in kept standing right where we were swinging and just ducking out right before we would hit him. Then we just watched as Lloyd, Mona, Nanna, Olly, Jess and Luke did a bungy jump. Laura, Jess and Olly also did a Minjin swing. Luke's jump was really funny 'cause he did one were he ran of the top of the jumptower, and he kept running in the air. I would have liked to do it, but probably never would have gotten all the way up the stairs. But I guess I'll have to do it some other time in my life. That night we went out to eat and party in Cairns. It was our last night before the two new guys would join us for the rest of the trip. The place we were at had 2-4-1 offers at different hours through the night. Somehow on the way back to the hostel the subject of skinny dipping was again discussed. And for some reason I agreed if Sofie would do it and she would do it if Lloyd and Olly agreed. Nanna, Mona and Sven somehow stayed out of the deal. So we skinny dipped in the hostel pool. And the pool rules say: you can't be there when the gate is closed (we jumped the fence), you aren't allowed to be drunk in the pool area, and no nudity. For some reason Sofie and me found it fun to steal the guys' clothes. After giving them back their things we went to sleep.

(Redcliffe to Tannum Sands to Airlie Beach)

The next day we had a somewhat long drive of 615km. We went to the Australian Zoo, which is Steve Irwin’s Zoo. I held a koala and of course we had to see the crocodile show. But no one had warned us that the time shown was when Bindi and the Croc men (or what they were called) had a show. So we endured 30 minutes of her singing and dancing before the crocodiles came.
The next day we had yet another 600km drive from Tannum Sands to Airlie Beach. Sometime along the drive we crossed to Tropic of Capricorn, so we entered to Tropic zone. We got to Airlie Beach, where we went out to eat and then partied. We kind of hopped from place to place, some places some of the guys weren’t allowed in because the doorman judged them as to drunk. We ended the night at Mama Africa, as we after a couple of tries finally got everyone in. Nanna, Mona, Lloyd, Olly and me stayed at Mama Africa a bit longer than some of the others. Going home we took a cap, but ended up at the wrong campsite. The cap was gone before we got to tell him it was wrong. So we went out and sat on the road to try and stop a car and so we could get home. Olly and Nanna at some point walked one way, while we stayed and got a woman to pull over who were so nice as to drive us to the right campsite, which was the one just 5 minutes down the road. So we sat by the entrance and I called Nanna, with some trouble because of bad coverage. We told them which way to go and they walked back. Finally we were all back at the campsite and could go to sleep.
The next day we went on a Whitsunday Cruise. Nicole, Lloyd and Sven were on a sail boat and the rest of us had taken a catamaran cruise. It was a beautiful day, with sunbathing, snorkelling, swimming and relaxing. I got sunburned on my back. We ate out again but didn’t stay out that long.

(Tingalpa to Moreton Island to Redcliffe)

We got up and packed our day pack, as we couldn’t bring everything to Moreton Island. Then we drove to the harbour and left Jack, as only 4WD vehicles can drive on Moreton Island. Moreton Island is a sand island. During the day we went to the beach, and it was absolutely gorgeous. Right next to the beach there was a natural billabong which we bathed in also, before going back to the beach. We went back to the hut we where staying in and relaxed, we walked down to the beach and saw the sunset and it was beautiful. We ate good food and played cards. At some point we started playing drinking games. Ring of fire and Black or red where among the games. And let’s just say mixing beer, rum and coke and Red Bears is not a tasty thing. But it was an entertaining night. The next day we had to be ready at 8 o’clock. But we were missing Helen. After looking for her, Luke found her in another hut. We drove off to hike mount Tempest, which is the biggest costal sand dune in the world. The view was beautiful at the top. Then we went to the Desert and sandboarded, it was really great but you got sand everywhere. So we went to the beach to rinse of the sand and eat lunch. We visited a pool before it was time to wait for the ferry and leave the island. Then we drove to Redcliffe to stay for the night.

(Coffs Harbour to Byron Bay to Tingalpa)

Tuesday the 14th we woke up in our hostel. Everyone got ready and had breakfast, before getting our raincoats (or whatever alternative one had) for the walk we were going to do that rainy day. On the walk our very first group picture was taken, which would be the first of many. Then we drove on. It didn’t rain more that day and after driving about 250 km we got to our first campground. We got our tents and sat up camp for lunch, with a quick visit to the beach. Then we went to what is apparently the most easterly point of the Australian Mainland, Cape Byron. After that we went into Byron Bay and wandered a bit. Nanna and I came to the conclusion that hot guys apparently were drawn to Byron Bay ‘course we saw a lot while shopping.
We went back to the campground to get ready for dinner and maybe a couple of drinks in Byron Bay. Not everyone went out after we left the pub where we ate, but some of us did. We had a few drinks, talked and played some pool before getting a taxi back to the campground. It was the first of many nights out, but we didn’t stay out that late. The next day we got up and got ready for at great day. All except Laura, Lloyd, Helen and Hanny went surfing. Surfing was absolutely amazing. But it was also really exhausting. After that the ones who wanted to Hang-glide had to hurry and change and/or eat. Sofie, Mona, Jess, Sabrina and I were some of the people not going so we found something to eat to and relaxed in Byron Bay for a while before meeting at Woollies for a shop, we had divided into food groups so every group had to find stuff for the day they were going to cook. The hang-gliders came back when we were pretty much done shopping. And then we drove about 220 km to Tingalpa in Queensland, with a stop in Surfers Paradise, which is kind of too much, Byron Bay was just perfect compared to it.

Thursday the 9th till Monday the 13th of April.
(DK to Sydney to Coffs Harbour)

On the 9th of April 2009 I spent all day packing. Time moved to slow, I really just wanted to be in Sydney now, but Nanna and I left Copenhagen around 5. 40 pm. So at 3 pm we said goodbye to our parents at the airport. We now had over 24 hours till we would be in Sydney. First we flew to Frankfurt and had a few hours there before getting on the flight to Sydney with a short stop in Singapore. It was a long flight but once you were on the plane you just relaxed, slept and watched movies or whatever you felt like.
Finally Saturday the 11th of April we landed in Sydney at 5 am. Tired but excited we went through immigration and customs, without any trouble. Outside the sun was starting to rise so we saw it rise while taking a cap to Brighton Le Sands, where Rada and Delia were waiting to welcome us to Australia. Though jetlagged we just ate something, showered and relaxed a bit before going out to explore Sydney. While waiting for a bus we went to the beach and dipped our feet in and enjoyed it. That day we took a sightseeing bus, so we could see Sydney, at times it was really hard to stay awake for me. Sometime during the day we agreed to a hair salon's offer for a pampering sessions, which we decided to take on our last day when back in Sydney about a month later. Feeling tired we just paid for The Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb which we would do the next day. So we went back to Brighton le Sands relaxed and fell asleep, woke up for dinner, relaxed some more and I quickly checked my mail and talked a bit with Rada before going to bed.
The next day we did the Bridge Climb, which is a nice experience but a bit of a challenge when you are scared of heights. Wandered Sydney a bit before going back to Brighton Le Sands to eat and pack our stuff so we could go to the Travelodge to stay for the night since we would be meeting the group there the following morning. Then on Monday the 13th of April we woke up and got ready to meet the people we were going to spend the next 30 days with, felt excited and a bit anxious. Everybody stood in the foyer of the hostel and looked at each other wondering if they were part of the group. Nanna saw Jess who she had chatted a bit with on Facebook before. Then our tour guide, Luke, came in. We all sat down and Luke explained a lot of stuff before we went out to the van, put our stuff in the trailer and got ready for our first drive at about 600 km. In the van people slowly talked a bit or just studied each other (must admit I did that mostly). We had our first shop for food and got introduced to The Eskies. Then we came to Coffs Harbour and checked into the YHA hostel for the night. I was in a room with Nanna, Jess and Sabrina. Luke cooked that night and we introduced ourselves. The group was made up by Nanna and me from Copenhagen Denmark, Mona and Sofie also from Denmark, but different part of it. Then there was Sven from Germany, Hanny from Holland, and Nicole from Germany. Jess, Sabrina and Olly from England, Helen from the Canary Islands, Lloyd from South Africa and Laura from USA. And of course our guide Luke from Australia. The oldest of the group was Hanny at 50-something and the youngest was Olly at 19 years old.

That trip was definitely the travel of my life.. And hopefully I'll see almost everyone from the group at some point again... I left Denmark the 9th of April and landed back in Denmark the 15th of May.... I'm planning on making a new layout for this to match the theme of my Australia trip....
